Many of us are looking for ways to cut down our single use plastic consumption, and a great way to do this is to replace cling film with a reusable sandwich wrap. In this blog post I am going to share how you can make your own sandwich wraps.

reusable sandwich wrap

What you need to make your own reusable sandwich wrap

You will need the following items:

  • 1 14×14” piece of cotton fabric in a print of your choosing
  • 1 12×12 piece of waterproof fabric
  • Scissors
  • All-purpose thread in a coordinating colour of your cotton fabric.
  • Wonder sewing clips
  • 1 package of sew on hook and loop strips (available from Poundland or Amazon)
  • Sewing machine

Method for making the reusable sandwich wrap

Step 1: Place the right side of your fabric on the shiny side of your waterproof fabric. Now you have a 2” border of the cotton fabric on all four sides.

Step 2: Fold the cotton fabric until it touches the edge of the cotton fabric, or 1”, leaving the corner unfolded. Fold it again until it overlaps the waterproof fabric. Pin in place.

Step 3: Take the corner of the cotton fabric and fold down at the diagonal.

Step 4: Fold over sides of the fabric at the corner like in step 2.

Step 5: When the corners meet, it should look like Step 5.

Step 6: Sew a 1/2″ seam allowance around all four sides.

Step 7: Measure and cut 4, 2” pieces of the hook (2 pieces) and loop (2 pieces) fastenings.

Step 8: Turn your wrap, waterproof side up, in a diamond shape, so you have a corner at North, South East and West, OR top, right, bottom and left.

Step 9: Pin one piece of the loop (fuzzy) at the north/top corner and sew in place.  (See photo)

Step 9a: Do the same with the loop (fuzzy) side at the east /right and sew in place, (See photo)

Step 9b: Do the same with the hook (prickly) side at the south/bottom and sew in place, (See photo)

Step 9c: Do the same with the hook (prickly) side at the west /left and sew in place, (See photo)

Step 10: Flip your sandwich on the diagonal again, waterproof side up. Place your sandwich in the middle of the sandwich wrap. Fold like an envelope.

Now you have a reusable sandwich wrap

And there you have it, now you have a reusable sandwich wrap to use for your sandwiches or other lunch items.

This DIY is quick to make, and you can make a variety of sandwich wraps using different prints.

Jars of...Motivation! Did these little jars save Jars of...Motivation!

Did these little jars save me from a serious head funk?

Why yes they did!

Let me explain. I've got a lot of ideas and projects on to go. Looking at my to do lists is OVERWHELMING. What do I do instead? Nothing!

Mental health and The Overwhelm had got to me. There was no 'new year, new me' this year. There was 'new year, same depressed me under a cloud of darkness who isn't getting things done'.

Until my business mentor stepped in and we came up with this strategy to make jars for some of my projects, and write out tasks to do for those projects.

Now instead of looking at a to do list, getting overwhelmed and doing nothing I have some pretty jars to pull a task out from. Okay, it isn't perfect - sometimes I pull something out that needs another task doing first so I just pop it back inside and pick out another one.

If you are struggling then I would really recommend this technique! It got me out of a funk.

Dear everyone, I wrote out a different post for t Dear everyone,

I wrote out a different post for tonight but following days in bed with depression I want to just remind that tomorrow you don’t have to be perfect.

I know, it’s the first Monday of the year.

Here’s the thing - we aren’t going to magically wake up, get ready and do ALL those things we said we would do. Eating healthier, exercising more, side hustling all the money, completing all of those courses, reading all those books, saving all that money and being our ✨perfect✨ selves.

Instead if we have unrealistic expectations we are going to FAIL!

Why not take just one thing you can improve upon tomorrow? Mine is exercise, spurred on by @the_nifty_nomad who is going to hold me accountable. I am going to master that before trying to add another thing in.

Sure, I might end up doing some of the things on my ✨perfect life✨ list, but that’s not the goal.

The goal for tomorrow is to go for a walk.

That’s it!

Remember - progress not perfection.

TREAT YO SELF CHALLENGE The other day I was think TREAT YO SELF CHALLENGE

The other day I was thinking...why don’t we treat ourselves more often?

Hear me out. Many of us have financial goals that we want to achieve, or we have other financial commitments (like children) meaning we don’t treat ourselves much.

I had tested two perfumes that I fell in love with, and I could afford them. But I felt as though I had to justify buying them.

This the #TreatYoSelfChallenge was born.

Here is how it works:

1. Choose a treat for YOURSELF! Not for your children, not towards a debt. Something totally indulgent for you!

2. Divide the cost by 100 to get your 1% number.

3. Now side hustle those 1%s at a time.

I wanted two perfumes, which came to a total of £162.90. I rounded it up to £163 and have been counting every £1.63 I make on Facebook Marketplace towards the goal. So far I have managed to order this beaut and I love love love it. I feel so special when I see it on my shelf and spray it.

I chose Marketplace as a way to declutter and make extra money but you could do anything.

Check out my story highlight for the 1% at a time template.

If you are taking part then tag me - I would love to see what you choose and encourage you along the way.
