You may have noticed that I’ve really been getting into adult colouring as a hobby lately. It’s such a relaxing and creative way to unwind! I’ve been testing out a range of markers, pens, and pencils to find those that offer the best value for money while still being great to work with. In this post, I’m sharing a full Decotime alcohol markers review — including my honest thoughts, tips on getting the best value sets, and free swatch sheets to help you get the most out of your colouring experience. I’ll also answer the most common questions like are Decotime alcohol markers good, are they alcohol-based, how many colours there are, where to buy them (including ‘near me’), whether they’re discontinued, and the difference between brush and fine tips.

Why Use Alcohol Markers for Adult Colouring?
When it comes to adult colouring, alcohol markers are often preferred over water-based markers — and after using both, I completely agree!

Water-based markers can be streaky and often leave an uneven finish. They also tend to take longer to dry and aren’t great for blending.
In comparison, alcohol markers give you a much smoother and more even finish. They dry quickly and blend beautifully — especially the Decotime alcohol markers, particularly if you use the colourless blending pen.
They also interact with colouring pages differently — and, in my opinion, much better — making your finished pieces look more polished and vibrant.

Are Decotime Alcohol Markers Good?
Yes — for the price, they’re excellent. The ink lays down smoothly, blends nicely and dries evenly without streaks on decent-weight paper. For beginners and hobbyists, they offer a brilliant balance of performance and value. Downsides? They’re not refillable, cap colours don’t always match the ink perfectly, and thin paper will see bleed-through (as with any alcohol marker). Overall, they’re a solid pick if you want vibrant colour and smooth blending without premium-brand prices.
Are Decotime Markers Alcohol-Based?
Yes. Decotime sells alcohol markers (and also water-based pens in similar-looking packaging). The alcohol sets will say “Alcohol Marker” (or similar) clearly on the front of the box. Always double-check the label before buying to avoid picking up the water-based set by mistake.
My First Impressions: Are They Worth It?
Before discovering the difference between alcohol and water-based markers, I’d tried the Decotime water-based ones and didn’t understand what all the fuss was about — they weren’t great at all! That left me a little unsure about trying their alcohol markers.
I also found the Decotime alcohol marker range a bit confusing at first. You can buy them in small colour-themed sets (like just pinks or just blues), or in larger sets of 60, 72, 100, or even 160 markers. So which one should you try?
In terms of price, they sit in the mid- to higher-end budget range. They’re not as pricey as brands like Ohuhu (which are considered top-tier), but they’re still not bargain bin. Here’s a quick breakdown of what you can expect to pay:
- 60 markers – £16.99 – £20 from BargainMax, Tesco or B&M (from 28p – 33p per marker)
- 100 markers – £29.99 from The Range (about 30p per marker)
- 160 markers – £40 from B&M (if in stock, about 25p per marker)
- 300 markers – £69.99 from BargainMax (23p per marker)
@emmascolourcorner Colouring besties this is your sign to get the Decotime 300 alcohol marker case from @bargainmax. The 300 markers come in a case but you also get the click and snap decotime trays if you want to store them outside of the case – which is what I’ve done. Decotime alcohol markers come in cardboard boxes and include stackable Decotime trays for storage, which are designed to clip together if you buy more sets.
I’ve tested both the 60-marker and 160-marker sets. Overall, I was really impressed with the colour selection in both — obviously the 160 set offers more variety, but the 60 set is a brilliant starting point and has a well-rounded colour range for any colourist to enjoy.
One reason that I really wanted to try out these was to try using the brush tip. Previously, when reviewing the Home Bargains alcohol markers and the Art Studio alcohol markers from The Range, they both had broad and fine tips, whereas the Decotime markers have a brush and a fine tip.
Do the Decotime Alcohol Markers Bleed Through the Page?
Are you wondering if the Decotime alcohol markers bleed through the page?
The answer is yes — because these are alcohol based markers, they will bleed through pages.

To help to mitigate this you can place a piece of paper or cardstock under the picture you are colouring in, and choose colouring books that don’t have a picture on the other side.
If your colouring book has pictures on both sides of a page you will have to decide which one to colour in and which one to sacrifice.
Decotime Tip Types: Brush and Fine, or Chisel and Fine?
Most Decotime alcohol marker packs are dual-tip. The classic configuration is brush + fine. Many colourists prefer a brush tip for smooth blending and more natural strokes. Always check the product box or listing — look for wording like “brush and fine” or “chisel and fine”.
How Many Decotime Alcohol Markers Are There?
You’ll see a variety of pack sizes depending on the retailer and time of year: 12, 40, 60, 72, 100 and 160 are common — and there’s also a huge suitcase set of 300. Not every size is in stock year-round; many bundles are seasonal and rotate.
Colour Range
The colour range in the Decotime alcohol markers is great for the price that you pay!
You can choose how many pens you buy from the smaller sets of 12 alcohol markers all the way up to the 160 set – so the range of colours you get will depend on the size of the set you get.
Both the 60 and the 160 set have a decent range of colours.
In the 60 set, which you can get for £20, you will find a large range of greens with 17 markers being in the green range, and a nice range of purples with 11 markers. This set is lacking, in my opinion, in browns with just 2 markers being brown, and greys, again with only 2 markers.
Another downside to the colour range in the 60 set of Decotime alcohol markers is the lack of skin tones. I find this across the board in quite a lot of the sets I have been testing out, and I am considering buying a set of skin tone alcohol markers.
In the 160 set you will have so many colours you won’t know what to do with them – nevermind the 300 set.

♬ Santa Tell Me Beat – Cici Beats
This set features a heavy range of greens again, but the selection of browns, pinks, oranges, yellows and blues is much better — which is fair enough as it is one and a half times bigger than the 60 set.
The grey selection is bigger with 7 grey tones, including 6 warm greys. In comparison, the Home Bargains set (for £7.99) had 9 grey shades split into blue grey, cool grey, green grey and warm grey.
For colour range, if your budget and storage space allows, I would recommend you go for the 160 set, but if you can’t stretch to it, the 60 set is great too.

Where to Buy Decotime Alcohol Markers in the UK
If you are looking to buy the Decotime alcohol markers in a shop then in the UK you can look for them for sale in:
- Tesco
- The Range
- B&M
Here’s a quick guide by set size (availability is seasonal and varies by store):
- 12 packs – The Range, Tesco, B&M
- 40 packs – Occasionally in mixed retailer promotions
- 60 pack – BargainMax, Tesco, B&M (often the best balance of price and colours)
- 72 pack – BargainMax (appears around seasonal promos)
- 100 pack – The Range, Amazon
- 160 pack – B&M (store dependent; call ahead)
- 300 set with case – BargainMax
If you prefer to buy the Decotime markers online then you can get them from:
- Bargain Max – the 60 set is on sale for £16.99, and the 72 set pops up during promos
- Vinted – I actually got my 160 set on Vinted after not being able to find them in any local B&M stores
- Amazon and eBay – rotating availability (60/100 are the most common online)
DecoTime 300 Alcohol Marker Suitcase Set
Want the biggest palette in one go? The DecoTime 300 alcohol marker set comes in its own suitcase-style carry case with dual tips and a huge spread of brights, pastels, neutrals and greys. It’s brilliant if you want everything in one organised kit.
Check availability of the DecoTime 300 suitcase set at BargainMax — stock is seasonal and sells out quickly.
“Near me” tip: Search “Decotime alcohol markers near me” with your town, then ring your local B&M/Tesco/The Range to confirm stock before a special trip. Store ranges are seasonal and can vary a lot by branch. If you’re in Europe, Action stores frequently carry Decotime markers too.
Colouring with Decotime Alcohol Markers

I tested out the markers on two books so far – Girl Moments by Coco Wyo.

I also tested them out using Cottage Dreams by Cosy Colour Cottage.

So far out of all the alcohol markers I have used to date, the Decotime alcohol markers are my favourite to colour in with.
Colouring with a brush tip really changed the game for me and I love seeing how much my colouring has improved in just a short time by practicing and switching up to brush tips.

I love the way that the ink reacts with the page. It seeps into the paper beautifully and fills the surrounding area quickly.
These dry nicely, but there’s enough time to still blend with them.
Blending with Decotime Alcohol Markers
Oh my word, these blend like an absolute dream.

The markers stay wet long enough to blend nicely, but the added colourless blending marker pen in the 160 set really elevates the blending and gives you a bit more time if needed.

Pros & Cons of the Markers
Here are the pros and cons of the Decotime alcohol markers based on my experience of them.
Pros:
- Smooth, even finish: Unlike water-based markers, Decotime alcohol markers don’t leave streaks and offer a clean, professional look.
- Quick drying: Perfect for avoiding smudges and speeding up your colouring process.
- Great for blending: Especially when using the colourless blending pen, making them ideal for shading and gradients.
- Affordable for the quality: Mid-range pricing, making them accessible yet good quality — especially when compared to premium brands like Ohuhu.
- Wide range of colours: With sets of 60, 100, and even 160, there’s a good variety depending on your budget and needs (plus a 300-colour suitcase option).
- Modular storage system: Comes with stackable trays that can connect with other Decotime products, helping with neat organisation.
- Beginner and hobbyist friendly: A solid choice for those who are getting into alcohol markers without breaking the bank.
Cons:
- Confusing range of products: Different colour mixes and set sizes can be hard to compare. Some colours repeat across sets.
- Higher-end price for some: While more affordable than top-tier brands, they still sit at the higher end for casual hobbyists.
- Packaging could be better: Cardboard boxes aren’t the most durable unless you use the included trays or transfer to a case.

Frequently Asked Questions About Decotime Markers
Yes, especially for the price. They’re vibrant, smooth and blendable. Not refillable, and thin paper will bleed through — but that’s normal for alcohol markers.
Yes — but Decotime also makes water-based pens that look similar. Check the box says “Alcohol Marker”.
Commonly 12, 40, 60, 72, 100 and 160 — plus a 300-colour suitcase set.
In the UK: Tesco, The Range, B&M, and online at BargainMax, Amazon, eBay and Vinted. Try ringing your local branch to check stock. In Europe, look at Action stores.
Not as a brand. Specific sets rotate seasonally and sometimes return with updated packaging or colour mixes.
Yes on thin paper. Use thicker cardstock/marker paper and place a sheet underneath to protect the page below.
Many are brush + fine. Check the packaging or listing text.
Try BargainMax — it’s seasonal and can sell out fast.

Are Decotime Alcohol Markers Worth Buying? Final Thoughts

These are my favourite alcohol markers to colour in with, so I would definitely recommend getting them if they are within your budget.
For the best colour range and for a set including the colourless blender I would suggest getting the 160 set for £40 — and if you want the lot in one place, watch for the DecoTime 300 suitcase when it’s in stock.
