Avoid Side Hustle Burnout With These Tips

Source

In more recent years, we’ve learned a lot about overworking and the threat of burnout. While twenty years ago it was seen as a badge of honor to work all the time, we know more about the consequences of that. However, at the same time, side hustle culture has taken off. If you know that you want to build your own thing alongside your current full-time job, it’s important to approach things in the right way. Ultimately, if you’re already working at least forty hours a week and you’re planning to add to that with your side hustle, you need to tread carefully. But the good news is, there are ways to make sure that you don’t burn out while building your side business. In this blog post, we’re going to work through five tips that will help you to do exactly that.

Work to a Schedule

First of all, you need to make sure that you have a schedule that works for you. If it’s just a free-for-all, you may find that you’re working a lot more than you should be. This will definitely lead to burnout. So, make sure that you’re tracking your time and sticking to a work schedule.

Set Limits and Take Breaks

Something that will help you with this is for you to set limits. Even if you feel like you can keep working, stopping and taking breaks is the best thing for you in the long run. Here, it’s all about you being able to balance your time well and ensure that you have the rest and energy you need to give your all to both your job and your side hustle.

Have a Healthy Post-Work Routine

If all you do is go to work and work on your side hustle, you’ll hit a wall at some point. To counteract that, you need to make sure that you have a healthy post-work routine in place. Because you’re spending a lot of time on screens, make sure you get blue light glasses to help–especially if you like to watch TV to relax. You can also take a bath or look to hang out with friends as a way of switching off too.

Look After Your Mind and Body

At the same time, you need to make sure that you’re looking after your mind and body in the process too. This is going to mean that you’ll be able to withstand the amount of work that you want to do. By working out, eating well, staying hydrated, and looking to avoid stress, you’ll have more energy to dedicate to your passions.

Take the Pressure Off

Lastly, you absolutely need to make sure that you’re not putting too much pressure on yourself. As much as it can make sense for you to want to do well and for your side-hustle to succeed, the last thing you need is to burn out and not be able to give it your all. When you’re passionate about something, of course, you want to dedicate time to it and for it to go well. But applying too much pressure isn’t going to make that happen; it will have the opposite effect. When you focus on having fun and enjoying what you’re doing instead of pressuring yourself too much, it changes the game for you.
