Temu Acrylic Markers Review

Looking for budget-friendly acrylic markers to use in your adult colouring books? I tested a pastel set from Temu to see if they’re worth the hype—and here’s everything you need to know before you buy the Temu acrylic markers.

If you’re short on time then my quick take is that they’re fantastic value for money, give good coverage (I’d say that with about 25% of the colours if I want to cover a black line I have to go over them again) and have a wide variety of colours for the price.

First Impressions of Temu Pastel Acrylic Markers for Colouring

When you search Temu for acrylic markers there are so many to choose from. As I ordered mine in spring, I decided to look for a set with pastel colours, and I came across the macaron colour set of 24 colours for under £10. When writing this review I discovered that the same ones are available on Amazon for around £15 – so if you want them delivered quicker and are happy paying 50% more than Temu, then you can order from Amazon instead.

I chose a set with a brush tip as brush tips are my favourite for colouring

Although I am using mine for paper in adult colouring books, they can be used on:

• Paper
• Rock
• Glass
• Timber
• Ceramic
• Canvas

I have only tested mine on paper.

When they arrived they were packaged really beautifully in a pastel coloured box with swatches on the back. Some of the names did have typos on them – like ‘ligth blue’ instead of ‘light blue’.

The range of colours isn’t terribly big – you’re getting a lot of different shades of colours e.g. blues, instead of a wide varierty of colours – but you can see all of these on the listing before buying them. The colours match the lids really well, so I didn’t feel the need to do a separate swatch sheet—but if you love swatching like I do, you still can and I’ve even got a free swatch sheet for you below.

They compliment the colouring pages I’ve done using my Ohuhu pastel alcohol markers.

They don’t have a strong smell to them when using them. I have to hold them up to my nose and really sniff deeply to get a scent from them.

How Do Temu Pastel Acrylic Markers Perform?

I’ll talk more about how to use acrylic markers for adult colouring later on, but really you want to use them to add patterns, details and cover black lines over the top of other medium like alcohol markers. They’re not designed for colouring entire pages – and trust me, I tried. It used loads of ink, crinkled the paper, and just didn’t look that great. I’ve had much better luck colouring full pages with alcohol markers like the ones in my Decotime alcohol markers review.

That’s because they aren’t really designed for colouring entire pages – colouring book pages are made for pencils, water based and alcohol based markers and gel pens. Acrylic markers are paint, which are a bit too wet to colour in entire pages.

That said, of course I had to try to show you what I mean. You can see above that it makes the paper very creased when dry, and it used so much ink. It also didn’t cover any areas very well! Let’s be real – it doesn’t even look that great!

Instead I’ve been experimenting with the Temu acrylic markers to add details like patterns and drawings to my colouring pages, which you can see an example of above. These pair especially well with pastel alcohol markers, like the ones I tested in my Home Bargains alcohol markers review.

These pastel paint markers from Temu glide onto colouring pages beautifully, making them ideal for adding detail work. They aren’t much thicker than a normal pen, meaning that I can hold and control them easily. With other markers I’ve bought before they’re quite chunky, meaning it is hard to add smaller details.

Since they are paint, they don’t bleed through the page, but if you’re using alcohol markers you’ll have got into the habit of using a sheet of paper or card behind your pages so that you don’t ruin the picture behind.

The colour pay off from these acrylic markers is actually really good! I’ve used these Temu art markers to colour over black lines in my colouring books, and most shades give solid coverage on the first go. I would say 75% of the pens cover the black lines first time. Sometimes some of the colours do need a few coats to completely cover the black lines.

They take a bit longer to dry than alcohol markers, so just be sure to leave your page open for a little bit.

Colour Accuracy

I’ve touched upon this above, and I’d say the colour accuracy is really good compared to the colours on the lid.

You can also easily see the colours on the brush tip to help you to decide which colour suits the most.

Can you blend the Temu acrylic markers?

Like most budget-friendly acrylic paint markers, these don’t really blend — they’re best for layering or adding flat details on top of your colouring.

That’s because each colour is paint, and designed to cover whatever is underneath. You’d be better off blending with alcohol markers.

Who are the Temu acrylic markers best for?

Really I think these are a great option at their price point, and would suit beginner colourists or those just delving into adult colouring. They’d work better on larger areas and not mandalas. These budget acrylic markers from Temu are great for beginner colourists or even for kids who want to get into art and crafts.

Pros and Cons Of The Temu Acrylic Markers

Pros:

• Affordable at 24 markers for under £10
• Good colour selection – lots of different shades
• 75% of the colours cover black lines first try

Cons:

• Very limited blending ability
• 25% of the pens need a second (or third) coat to cover black lines
• Pen capacity is a little small compared to other brands. I’m not expecting them to last forever, especially with heavier use, but at under £10 they’re great for occasional detail work.

How to use acrylic markers in adult colouring

When it comes to using acrylic markers in adult colouring you might be wondering if you can colour in entire pages using them, or just use them for adding details.

I personally like to use them just for adding details like patterns or covering black lines (either made by fineliners or printed in the colouring books) because I find for entire pages they make the pages crease and I don’t like the texture when dried.

If you are colouring on card then you might have better luck than me.

I use them over alcohol markers to add patterns, like a pattern on a duvet cover.

Before using be sure to shake the markers well, and store them horizontally.
