If you ever sit down to colour… and then spend 10 minutes just deciding what style to do, what colours to pick, and whether you want something easy or a bit more “ooh let’s try a new effect”, you’re not alone.
That’s exactly why I built this Colour Challenge Picker.
It gives you a random colouring challenge at the click of a button, with options to include or exclude the types of challenges you actually feel like doing today. No overthinking, no scrolling Pinterest for hours, just a quick prompt to get you started.
Colour along with me on TikTok
If you enjoy colouring challenges and seeing different effects in action, I share lots of real-time colouring, finished pages, and cosy colouring ideas over on TikTok.
I often use prompts like the ones in this generator, talk through my colour choices, and show how different effects look on the page rather than just in theory.
You can follow my colouring TikTok @emmascolourcorner.

How the Colour Challenge Picker works
The picker is simple on purpose.
All categories start ticked, so you can press Choose a challenge straight away and get a result instantly.
If you want to narrow things down, untick anything you don’t want included, then press the button again.
There’s also an optional Include Christmas checkbox, which adds a small list of Christmas-only challenges.
When you find a challenge you love, press Save to keep it in your saved list at the bottom of the generator.
What counts as a “colouring challenge”?
In the colouring world, “challenge” doesn’t have to mean difficult.
It’s more like a prompt. A fun constraint, a specific effect, a theme, or a layout idea that helps you colour differently to usual.
Sometimes it’s as easy as “monochrome” or “three markers only”. Other times it’s a full effect like stained glass, bokeh, or a vintage film look.
Challenge categories you can include or exclude
Here’s what each category means, so you can quickly choose what you want to generate.
Colour based prompts
These are colour limitation challenges, like monochrome or a set number of markers. They’re brilliant when you want something relaxing and simple, but still want a result that looks pulled together.
Examples you might get:
Monochrome
2 markers
Pastels
Greyscale and rainbow
Techniques and texture effects
These focus on how you colour, not just what colours you use. They’re perfect if you want to practise your skills or try something new without needing a full tutorial.
Examples you might get:
Bokeh effect
Sticker effect
Pointillism
Stippled shading
Neon sign
Stained glass window
Effects and finishes
These are the “make it look like…” challenges. Think vintage photos, old paper, VHS, Polaroid, and that general styled finish that changes the whole page vibe.
Examples you might get:
Sepia effect
Old letter
Vintage film effect
VHS camera effect
Polaroid
Mood and theme prompts
These are the vibe-based prompts. You still choose the exact colours, but the mood gives you direction so you’re not starting from scratch.
Examples you might get:
Galaxy
Fantasy theme
Vintage
Wicked
Lisa Frank
Seasonal prompts
These are seasonal ideas and structured seasonal prompts, like splitting a page into seasons or colouring a page as a slow advent-style project.
Examples you might get:
All four seasons on one page
Seasons split page
Advent calendar (Christmas)
Pop culture prompts
These are inspired by popular books, films, and aesthetics. If you’re not into pop culture colouring, simply untick this box and it won’t appear.
Examples you might get:
Harry Potter
Disney theme
Book cover from your favourite read
Recreate the colouring book cover
Layout prompts
These change how you approach the page layout, even if you’re not doing anything fancy with technique.
Examples you might get:
50/50 split
Washi tape framing
Jigsaw puzzle
Include Christmas
Tick this if you want a small bonus pool of Christmas-only challenges included in your results.
Current Christmas challenges:
Gingerbread effect
Tinsel
Baubles
How to use the saved list
If you’re generating ideas for later, the Save button is your friend.
When you save a challenge, it gets added to a list beneath the generator. You can remove individual challenges or clear the whole saved list.
This is really handy if:
You want to pick a week’s worth of challenges in advance
You’re doing a personal 30-day colouring challenge
You want to build a little “to try” list when you’re not in the mood to colour right now
