Tim Hortons Too Good To Go Review: What Was In My Magic Bag & Was It Worth It?

The Tim Hortons Too Good To Go bag was a lovely find on a recent holiday to an area with a Tim Hortons. The Too Good To Go magic bags help reduce food waste and save you money — and for doughnut fans, this one’s a real treat.

Editor’s note: This visit took place in 2023, and prices or contents may vary over time and by location.

What Is the Too Good To Go App?

Too Good To Go is a free app that connects shoppers with restaurants, cafés, and supermarkets who have unsold food at the end of the day. Instead of throwing it away, they sell “Magic Bags” full of surplus items at a big discount.

You don’t get to choose what’s inside, which adds to the surprise. Depending on where you shop, you could end up with anything from pastries to sandwiches or even full meals from buffet restaurants.

Because you can’t customise what you receive, it might not suit all dietary needs — and if you’re a picky eater, some bags might not be ideal.

Is the Food Still Good to Eat?

Yes, absolutely.

You’re not getting mouldy or out-of-date food — these are items that are still perfectly edible, just not sellable the next day. If you ever do receive something that’s not fit to eat, Too Good To Go’s customer support is quick to help and may issue a refund.

How Much Is a Tim Hortons Too Good To Go Bag?

The price varies depending on the café, shop, or restaurant. My Tim Hortons Too Good To Go bag cost £3.99.

For comparison: A Costa Too Good To Go bag will cost you £3, a Starbucks Too Good To Go costs £4.50, the Greggs Too Good To Go bag costs £2.59 and a Morrisons Too Good To Go bag will set you back £3.09.

What was inside the Magic Bag?

Tim Hortons Too Good To Go

It might come as no surprise that the Magic Bag contained a box of donuts!

There were 7 donuts in the box (there are two of the chocolate ones).

Here’s what I got:

  • One mystery filled doughnut (delicious!)
  • Vanilla dip doughnut
  • Chocolate dip doughnut (x2)
  • Honey cruller
  • Old-fashioned glazed doughnut
  • Apple fritter

Value for Money

At about £1.25–£1.75 per doughnut normally, this bag offered roughly £10–£12 worth of treats for £3.99 — around 60% savings. It’s definitely one of the better-value Magic Bags I’ve had.

How to Get a Tim Hortons Too Good To Go Bag

The bags are really popular, so it helps to be quick. Here’s how to grab one:

  1. Download the Too Good To Go app.
  2. Add your payment details (card, Apple Pay, or PayPal).
  3. Add Tim Hortons to your favourites for easy access.
  4. Check the app regularly — you don’t always get notifications.
  5. Bags often appear 30–90 minutes before closing time, so keep an eye out during those hours

How to Collect Your Order

Head to the till and tell the staff you’re collecting a Too Good To Go order. You’ll need to swipe to collect in the app to confirm pickup. The staff member will hand you your Magic Bag — or in my case, a doughnut box!

Allergens and Dietary Notes

Tim Hortons doughnuts contain gluten, dairy, and eggs, and may include nuts or traces. Because Magic Bags are pre-packed and random, they’re not suitable for those with allergies or strict dietary requirements.
